Bf wants hair from spiky to emo.. plz help?

he usted to comb it spikey and now he wants it emo he doesnt know how long to have it or anything plz help... he alwyz had short-medium hair. anyway i would luv the help.he has very straight hair and its black as well. thank you.=)
