Can birth control pills make it more likely to get cervial cancer?

Ive read in a magazine that taking birth control pills for under 8 years can actually lessen the chance of getting cervial cancer but taking them for 8 years or more can make you more susceptible to getting cancer. Is this true? Ive definitely be on the the pill for more than 8 years. I also have HPV and HSV-2 which I know both make you more likey to get cervial cancer.
